Plukenetia Volubilis is a genus of plant with somewhat hairy leaves — of the family of Euphorbiacaea. The more common name for Plukentia Volubilis is sacha inchi, sacha peanut, mountain peanut or Inca Peanut. This plant is widespread in tropical regions of Africa, Southeast Asia and North and South America. Sacha inchi seeds are a naturally occurring omega 3 fatty acids food.
Omega 3 Fatty Acids Foods
Omega 3 fatty acids are found in highest concentrations in coldwater fish like sardines, salmon, mackerel, halibut, cod, tuna, herring and shark. Omega 3 fatty acids are found in lower concentrations in flaxseed, Great Northern Beans, walnuts, navy beans, kidney beans, soybeans and other plant based vegan sources of Omega 3.
However, sacha inchi seeds have an extremely high omega 3 concentration–48% omega 3 in sacha inchi oil compared to lower percentages of Omega 3 found in fish oil supplements and other plant based oils. This high concentration of omega is great for human consumption, because the human body doesn’t get enough polyunsaturated fats (found in Omega 3’s). By taking sacha inchi oil regularly, you can experience better brain function, healthier hair and skin, a healthier heart, improved mood and clearer vision.
And although these products are not yet available in the US on Amazon (hopefully soon), I wanted to mention Inchaway. Inchaway sacha inchi oil is grown on a farm in Singapore, Malaysia. Inchaway holds 1,000 acres of sacha inchi plants – and does not use any chemical fertilizers or pesticides. Inchaway products include: sacha inchi oil, sacha inchi replacement meals, sacha inchi soaps, lotions, shampoos and mosquito repellent.
